It is reported that more than 80% of pregnant women will suffer from headaches. Why is this so? Well one of the reasons being the hormonal imbalance that is brought about as a result of the pregnancy. Mostly these migraines will affect women in the early stages of their pregnancy when their bodies are still trying to adjust. These migraine headaches are not good both for the mother and for the baby and need to be treated.

The best way to treat a migraine is to act on the factors that trigger the migraines. Changes in weather, alcohol, chocolate and coffee can trigger migraines in some people. Migraines can be treated by use of drugs but however most of these drugs are not recommended for pregnant women. Even drugs such as aspirin that can be purchased over the counter may not be safe for a woman to take them during her pregnancy. So then how can migraines be treated in pregnant women? Well the best move will be to go for the non medical options of migraine treatment.

Always make sure that you drink plenty of water dehydration is also linked to migraines. Always make sure that the pregnant mother gets enough sleep. Sleep ensures that the nerves and muscles get enough recuperation time thus allowing them function properly the next day. It is always ideal that a pregnant mother does not get exposed to matters that may cause anxiety. This will result in her brain becoming unstable thus causing excess release of hormones that will in turn affect her by causing migraines if severe it may even lead to a miscarriage.

Undergoing some mild form of exercise that is not strenuous during pregnancy is very helpful during pregnancy. Exercise during pregnancy improves the blood circulatory system thus improving the supply of blood leading to the brain thus reducing the incidences of migraines.

Pregnant mothers need to be on a diet that is high in nutrients such as magnesium, calcium. These minerals have also been linked to causing migraines especially magnesium. It is therefore important that pregnant mothers include in their diet foods rich in magnesium such as bananas, wheat bran, milk, green vegetables and seafood. Some of these minerals can be taken in the form of mineral supplements. It is however very important that pregnant mothers do not take any of these mineral supplements without consulting a doctor. Your doctor will determine for you the treatment that is considered safe for pregnant mothers.
