Optical migraines are migraines that specifically affect the blind spots of the eyes. Persons experiencing optical migraines will see light flashes, wave like colors or sparks. This kind of migraine can affect one side of the eyes. The person may experience a severe headache that can be followed by vomiting. Usually once the person vomits the headache is relieved.

These kinds of migraines are as a result of a neurological disorder. The brain is the root cause of migraines following some disturbances such as stress or allergies the brain can send signals through the hypothalamus to cause the pituitary gland to release certain substances known as hormones. These hormones have many effects on the body and if they are not properly regulated they can cause malfunctions of body organs thus causing migraines. Another possible cause that may lead to migraines is when the blood supply to the brain is not adequate as a result of some physiological reasons the body will respond in the form of migraines.

During a migraine a person will feel some pain that will be centered in the head this pain is a result of the vessels in the brain constricting and dilating. This constricting and dilating of the vessels in the brain affects the nerves that are connected to the eyes thus causing optical migraines. Optical migraines affect more women than men. Optical migraines can also be inherited from our parents.

Optical migraines can be treated by taking aspirin. If the optical migraines are severe doctors can prescribe drugs such as antiepileptic drugs or administer some triptan injections. Optical migraines can also be treated by ensuring that you get enough sleep. Sleeping in a room that is dark once you feel the symptoms of a migraine has been proven to be effective at relieving of migraines.

Magnesium supplements have also been discovered to stop migraines. Thus taking chealated magnesium supplements in the diet will help cure optical migraines. Optical migraines can also be as a result of straining the eyes. Thus optical migraines can also be controlled by glasses. So you should also make sure that you consult your optician so he can diagnose the cause of your migraines.

Exercise can be used to cure optical migraines. Regular exercise helps improve the cardiovascular system thus improving blood supply to the brain. A good blood supply to the brain ensures that the brains vessels stay healthy and function properly thus reducing the incidences of migraines.
