Migraine pronounced as mee-grain is a severe headache that is often coupled with symptoms such as nausea, visual problems and optical problems among other symptoms. The eye migraine, also called optical migraine is a unique type of migraine. This is so for in the case of an optical migraine the individual does not experience a severe headache as is the case with most migraines but rather they only experience an aura which is basically a vision of flashing like lights or sparks which can be accompanied by some ringing sounds. Eye migraines have also become popularly known as the silent migraines in the medical field this is so for they are often misdiagnosed due to the fact that they do not cause headaches, something that is often expected for a migraine.

Although there have been some major advances in medical research on migraines the definite cause for migraines has not yet been established. Doctors have however suggested possible causes of migraines some of which include hormonal imbalances, a dysfunction of the brain and allergies. Migraines can be severe and some of them life threatening so it is very important that when you suspect you have migraines you consult your doctor.

There are many health conditions that can cause visual disturbances, so it is very important that you consult your doctor so they can diagnose if you have eye migraines. Establishing the root cause of your migraines is very important for you may be nursing a condition that may degenerate into a life threatening condition.

Eye migraines are more common amongst women and are often inherited. Thus it is very important that when you visit your doctor you tell them some of your family’s medical history so that they can be able to make a proper diagnosis of your migraines. Once your migraines have been diagnosed a treatment will be recommended. Common treatments for migraines include drugs such as aspirin and some sedatives.

There are also ways of treating migraines safely without the use of drugs, these include going for a nap once you feel the migraine symptoms, drinking plenty of water, and drinking herbal teas. It is however important to note that treating migraines in this way does not offer any permanent relief from migraines. If the condition persists it is always important to consult your doctor so your condition can be diagnosed and a proper treatment procedure is carried out.

Visual migraines can come in there different ways and also have different causes. The first type of visual migraines are brought about by stress and overworking the body. The person having such a visual migraine will feel tired and drowsy and may even vomit. The visual disturbances are often accompanied by the headaches. The person cannot see clearly vision will be blurred it will be like trying to look into a dark room with objects that seem to be blurred. This visual disturbance can last up to as much as half an hour and then normal vision is restored.

The second type of visual migraines comes in the form of streaks of different colors that move in a wave like fashion. The person sees somewhat distorted images of the things around them. This kind of visual migraine can be caused by looking at the computer screen for a long period of time. A headache can follow this type of visual migraine, this headache can be felt from one side of the head.

The third type of visual migraines comes in the form of zigzag lights and colors. The person can still see images around them clearly but the sparks and flashes seem to be placed on top of the images such that they sort of twinkle in front of the true image. These visual migraines do not last for a very long time and they are not followed by a headache.

It is very important that when you experience any visual migraines you consult your doctor. Consulting a doctor is very important for there are many factors that can cause migraines. One of the factors that can lead to migraines are hormonal imbalances. Under severe stress the brain releases certain hormones at abnormal levels the body thus fails to properly regulate such hormones thus these hormones will cause some body dysfunctions which are then expressed in the form of headaches and visual disturbances.

Since the endocrine system is linked to migraines can thus be inherited. The endocrine system is controlled by the brain, the brain constitutes genetic material that is inherited from parental gametes. So thus if in either one of your parents families there was a person who once suffered from migraines there is a high chance that the offspring from this family line will inherit the disease from their ancestors.
